THE CASE

BOOM! Marketing, Canada’s leading Experiential Marketing Agency, required a custom touchscreen application to support The Glenlivet's Dram Room – an immersive whiskey tasting experince. The brief: mount touch screens into the top of whiskey barrels and have attendees of the event explore The Glenlivet while doing a tasting via a highly interactive APP-like experience. At the end of the experience, users are encouraged to become a Guardian of The Glenlivet by signing up.

THE APPROACH

After receiveing a rough storyboard from BOOM!, the team at THEY started designing the user interface using PHP, JS, HTML5, plus WebM for the video background support, wrapped around a custom installation of ExpressionEngine. The custom touch interfaces, with on-screen keyboard, were served up by a custom local web server (Apache, PHP, MySQL) with remote backup and synchronization, including custom Windows shell manipulation and security policies.

THE OUTCOME

The interactive barrels were well received and heavily used by attendees at The Glenlivet Dram Room events across the GTA.
